My Experiences

I currently serve as the Director of the M.A. in Strategic Communication at Michigan State University. I help steward the marketing, admissions, course design and support for the program as well as teach in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences.

Previously I served as Vice President for Marketing & Sales for MediaFusion in a leadership and innovator role. Prior to MediaFusion, I served as Executive Director of Communications and Technology for the Free Methodist Church, USA. I led the team responsible for communication strategy and implementation. I also teach communication strategy and develop online courses in higher eduction, most recently at Michigan State University.

I’ve worked with emerging technologies to develop pathways for faculty and staff in higher education to accomplish their teaching strategies and goals. This includes video production, Web site design, development, content management, and faculty consultations. I also built systems for faculty to deliver rich media to their students through the Blackboard Learning Management System, Desire to Learn, Kaltura MediaSpace and iTunes U.

Before working in higher education, I worked in the general marketplace to build an integrated marketing campaigns from writing, print, Flash development, video production, and Web design and development. The life before higher ed was as a pastor and church planter in small, medium, and large churches. Communication has always been something I love.

Overview of My Site

You’ll find the site is broken down into key categories and tags.  Categories are the main themes of the site.  By clicking on those key categories (Faith, Family, Leadership, Tech, etc), you will get a birds-eye view of any post with that category.  Tags are more specific and help define deeper what the posts are about.  So, a post with a quote from Brennan Manning [which anything he’s ever said or written should be a quote] may have a category of “Quotes”, but have a tag (descriptive word) for that quote.  That way you can sort posts by categories and tags.  I hope that makes sense.

As the site has been growing and my professional role has been expanding, I’m going to be blending some of my spiritual writing with more on innovation, technology, and leadership.  Choose your channel and enjoy the convergence.

My blog is built on WordPress 3.5 (self-hosted). I use GetNoticed, a premium WordPress theme.  It is specifically designed for anyone wanting to build a personal brand.

In terms of design, the body text font is Georgia. The titles and subhead fonts areHelvetica Neue. I get most of the photos for my individual blog posts from iStockPhoto and Photodropper.

For blog hosting, I currently host with Dreamhost. It is easy-to-use, reliable, and inexpensive.
